00:00:00 — We are so excited that you´re here. Oh, my gosh. This is the biggest thing and the freshest news, by the way, ´cause just yesterday, you announced the Boys´ Mind Tour, and this is... It´s happening. Tickets go on sale, Ticketmaster, this Friday. But let´s talk about this. How long has this been on your mind to do this, this idea of the tour?
00:00:33 — It's perfect timing. Everyone's going nuts. The tour is named after your legendary duet, The Boy Is Mine, which was released in 1998, okay? Let's go back to the beginning for a minute. Brandi, is it true you got the idea for this song from watching a Jerry Springer episode?
Jimmy Fallon:
00:00:47 — Yes, I was a huge Jerry Springer fan. Me, too. One of the topics was The Boy Is Mine, and I'm like, oh, my God, song idea, let's do this.
Brandy:
00:00:56 — And when did you two meet? Did you know each other before you recorded?
Jimmy Fallon:
00:01:00 — Well, I was always a fan of hers, and I wanted to work with her, so I called her up and asked her to be a part of the song, and she said yes, and here we are.
Brandy:
00:01:08 — And that's where you remember it, as well?
Monica:
00:01:09 — Well, that's exactly how it happened. She was working with Rodney Jerkins and LaShawn Daniels, and they were all putting together some incredible music. And when I first heard the song, I'm like, but people are going to think we're fighting. Right. And people still think we're fighting.
00:01:27 — I don't know if it's the greatness of the song or something else, but it did just start something completely different. And so, for us... But there is no fighting. This is a love affair. You guys love each other. We're a musical marriage.
00:01:42 — Thank you. The Boy Is Mine comes out, ended up being number one for 13 straight weeks. Biggest hit ever. Can you even imagine that much success when you were recording it?
Jimmy Fallon:
00:01:54 — Absolutely not. I mean, who knew? 13 weeks is a long time. And you didn't know that when you're creating it. Like, you hope for that, but...
Brandy:
00:02:03 — Here's you guys winning the Grammy for it, by the way. Were you excited about it? Yeah.
Jimmy Fallon:
00:02:07 — Oh, so excited. I actually ran to the stage. You ran to the stage? My composure was completely gone when they called my name.
Monica:
00:02:17 — And here's the thing. She leaves me because I have on these heels,
Jimmy Fallon:
00:02:21 — And I have on Chanel runway, and it's flowing.
Monica:
00:02:24 — So, I'm tiptoeing slowly behind her. And then, when I get up there, she's like, -"Sorry, girl.
00:02:31 — "It's the Grammys, yes." -"It's the Grammys. You got to get up there. It's got to get exciting. I mean, come on. That's one in a zillion right there." And then, cut to 25 years later, you get a call from Ariana Grande, who says, can I do a remix of a song called -"Boy of Mine"? -"Boy of Mine.".
00:02:50 — I think it was how personable that she was that made us feel so comfortable. It's special. Because we've been very adamant, just leave history as it is.
00:03:01 — Don't mess with it. Don't take ours off. Right, but it's like the integrity of it was still there. And the fact that she was consistently, my daughter, Leah, is only 11, and we've been watching her on Victorious for a long time. So when she FaceTimed me, she's like, mom, mom, mom. And I was like, yeah, I mean, you know, she calls me all the time, so...
Brandy:
00:03:29 — ♪♪♪♪ Someone that really inspired you both was Whitney Houston. And I couldn't help but think about Whitney and what she would think.
00:03:38 — I know. What would she would think about everything you're doing today? What do you think she would be? I think she would be very, very proud of us.
Monica:
00:03:46 — Don't you? She would be sarcastic. Finally. Yes.
00:03:51 — I'm super proud. She'd be very ecstatic for us because when she would see us together, it was something special. And we had a chance to really share moments with her. Together, we were about to do a tribute.
00:04:03 — And so we are all on borrowed time. You never know what may happen. And we didn't know that that would be our last time seeing her. So it allowed us to share. We have a lot of special moments that just continue to go on and on. But her influence is all over us, far beyond music. The love. Unmatched love.
Brandy:
00:04:23 — Ah, that's fantastic. I got to say, I got to ask, because everyone's talking, could this mean you guys would record some new music together?
Jimmy Fallon:
00:04:31 — I think it opens the door for sure. You down, Monica? I mean, what do you think?
00:04:39 — Right? You're going to be on tour. Right.
Monica:
00:04:42 — You get a little studio tour bus. Oh, no, now, we´re not doing the week´s studio tour bus. Yeah, the studio tour bus, listen, we´re seasoned women.
00:04:51 — We need proper rest, okay? Proper, yeah, yeah, okay. We´re going to 24 cities, so what we´re gonna do is just be smart about it. We´ll start working on some music immediately. Like in a month. Am I talking out of turn? No, not at all.
00:05:05 — We´ll start working on the music immediately, and then we can just be promoting it when we´re on the road. But no tour bus studios. That´s for the rappers. All right, okay, all right, all right.
Brandy:
00:05:15 — When you have a song, please come back to our show. We'd love to talk about it and have you perform or do something, but either way, we're so excited that you're here tonight. Thank you so much. Your tour kicks off October 16th.
Monica:
00:05:38 — Tonight's show, after the break. Stick around, everybody!
